Before you proceed with filling out our application, please read the information below.

Before you begin, we want to be upfront: our adoption application is long. Like "grab a snack, get comfortable, and maybe make sure your phone is charged" long. Actually, if we're being honest, there are probably more words than there are questions. It just looks extra long because we have a tendency to explain things in great detail.

Hi. We're the Fluffy Butt Team. We suffer from chronic over-explaining. But, I mean... have you seen our adoption bios?

Some of the extra text is simply us trying to explain why we're asking certain questions, what we're looking for, and how the information helps us and our foster families. We have found that applicants tend to give much more helpful answers when they understand the reasoning behind the question. So while it may look like you're about to write a college thesis on dog ownership, we promise it's not quite that dramatic. Also, rescue work can be emotionally exhausting, so humor helps keep us sane. You'll probably find sarcasm sprinkled throughout our bios, emails, social media posts, and our application process. If sarcasm and humor aren't your thing, we sincerely apologize in advance because there is a very good chance you'll roll your eyes at us at least once. Possibly twice.

Our foster families review applications directly. These are the people who have poured their hearts, time, patience, sleep, sanity, and occasionally their favorite shoes into these dogs. Many of our dogs come from neglect, abuse, abandonment, or heartbreaking circumstances. The more thoughtful, honest, and detailed your application is, the easier it is for fosters to truly understand who you are, how you live, and whether their foster dog will thrive in your home.

Applications that are rushed, incomplete, or consist primarily of one-word answers are much harder to evaluate and may be overlooked in favor of applicants who take the time to fully engage in the process. We aren't looking for perfect answers—we're looking for real ones.

We operate on a best-fit model, not a first-come, first-served model. Many of our dogs receive interest from multiple families at the same time. That means thoughtful, detailed applications are especially important. The more information you share, the easier it is for us and the foster family to understand whether a particular dog will thrive in your home. It's also important to understand that not every application will be one we move forward with. This does not mean you wouldn't be a wonderful pet owner or that there's anything wrong with your home. Sometimes it simply comes down to compatibility, timing, or another family being a slightly better fit for that specific dog's needs. Our responsibility is always to advocate for the dog first, even when those decisions can be difficult.

At the end of the day, adopting a rescue dog is not a casual decision. It's a lifelong commitment to a living being who didn't get a say in their past. If welcoming a new companion into your life isn't worth your full attention, patience, and care during the application process, then it may not be the right time to adopt.
But if you're here because you genuinely want to give a dog a safe, loving, permanent home, we promise the process is worth it.

And so is the dog waiting on the other side.

Things to Know:
-We will call your vet for information about your current animals.

Are all dogs in the home current on their vaccinations and heartworm prevention? If not, you will be asked to update them before we can proceed with your application.

-We will contact your personal references. It is critical that they reply to us in a timely manner, or we will not be able to proceed with your application. Let them know we will be sending them a text.

-If you are a renter, we will contact your landlord for approval for you to adopt a fluffy butt. Get permission before filling out the application. We WILL contact them and require them to approve of you having a new pet on the premises.

-We do require home videos to be submitted once everything else has been checked out. This is to ensure the safety of your new fluffy butt; we do require house numbers, the main living spaces, and the yard/fence to be included in them. We will provide more information about where to send them later on.

-We go case by case if you have no fencing, but be prepared for some follow-up questions.
